We are committed to keeping the big picture in mind. We bring a racial justice and equity lens to all of our work. We center relationships in everything we do. We offer a strengths-based and inquiry approach, building on what is working.

We’ve found patterns that hold organizations back and an approach of intentional listening and early relationship-building to support teams in designing campaigns that are better centered in the communities most impacted and lead to better results.

What we do

Organizing Staff and Program Support

Whether it is creating a county or city-level ballot initiative, moving a bill through a state legislature, or designing a campaign that ignites a local movement, we can help. We can provide custom campaign plans, power maps of key targets, and outlines of strategies and tactics. We can create plans to be implemented by your team or support your team in working through these strategies over time. In addition to supporting your team in designing and implementing campaigns, we work to ensure that organizers don’t burn out in the process and that your organization is positioned to grow from the campaigns you run.

Listening and Dialogue Session Guides

For entering new spaces, whether that is a new issue area or a community where your organization has not done work, it is important to learn the key issues of a space and how people think about these issues. We offer custom guides for listening sessions and hosting dialogues. We can either provide your organization with the tools to execute the work or we can conduct the sessions and provide the learnings to your team.

Recruitment, hiring, and onboarding

To run ambitious campaigns and succeed as an organization, you have to have the right people. A strong hiring process, rooted in equity, and values alignment can help organizations to find those people. We can support your team on all aspects of the hiring process from generating applicants to designing the interview process to managing communication with candidates to making strong offers and landing the top choice.

Change Management and Strategic Planning

For change to stick, it needs to be owned by the community as well as the board and staff. We approach planning and evaluation processes with movement-building in mind. Using our experiences with stakeholder engagement work, collaborative meeting facilitation, and democratic decision-making, we will engage and invest your team in the process as well as the outcomes, allowing you to deepen your impact.

What people are saying.

“Izzy and Laura were extremely thoughtful when training our team to facilitate a community listening session. They were able to work with our timeline and cater to the community members we were connecting with and the goals of our program. The activities were engaging and allowed all community members to participate in a way they were comfortable with. Better Outcomes Consulting made my team more comfortable and confident with facilitating the session and asking questions that resonate with our constituents.”

- Benice Mach, Mobility LABs Project Coordinator, Undo Poverty Campaign

“I had a wonderful time working with Izzy and Laura on creating a meaningful, engaging and inclusive retreat for my national program managers. They were so open to feedback, changing curriculum to cater to my team's needs and made the training affordable and accessible. My team feels energized after the retreat and I could not be more pleased with the outcomes. Laura and Izzy make an awesome team who embed personal story, integrity and engaging content to color their trainings. “

— Wambui Gatheru, Director of Programs, Andrew Goodman Foundation

“Before I met Izzy, I was burnt out on organizing, afraid to join a new campaign, and expecting the same poor management I was used to. But on the Yes on 1631 campaign, I learned that it's possible to work hard and be nurtured as a leader. Izzy's attention to morale was matched by her incisive campaign strategy, and our campaign felt and performed better than any other I've been part of as a result. “

— Erica Sklar, National Organizer, Hand in Hand

“One of my primary tasks was to build meaningful relationships and a community with our members. BOC was so easy to connect with, and I felt secure in our work relationship throughout the entire process. I didn't expect to grow as much as I did as an organizer and advocate on the issues I work on, but Laura always pushed me to think further and be raw and open with my thinking and approach to our work. At the end of our project together, I felt stronger and more connected to my work and feel confident in the listening series we developed and plan to run after our legislative session. I hope to work with them again soon.”

- Britt Bermingham, Centennial State Prosperity

“Laura completely revolutionized my view of community organizing, taking me from a sense of defeat to motivated, strategic, and community-driven optimism. She taught our small group how to recruit and organize with fellow university students to create the UAA Sustainability Club, providing the tools and energy we needed to defeat a nearby coal mine, train future leaders, and fight for environmental justice.”

- Hope Meyn, executive committee member, Sierra Club Alaska Chapter

"Izzy's insights and skills were invaluable to designing and running the largest electoral field program in Washington state history for I-1631. She is one of the most talented campaign strategists I know."

— Ahmed Gaya, Field Director, Organizer, and Campaigner

"Working with Izzy is engaging and inspiring. She is a tactical problem-solver with a keen eye for good ideas. She cares deeply about fairness and justice and can provide key insights and advice for an organization, project, or campaign looking to do equitable campaign work. As someone who works with local governments, elected officials, and campaigns having Izzy's perspective on projects has been invaluable."

— Abigail Doerr, Campaign Manager, Clean Air, Clean Energy WA
